Starting from April 2009, I am able to offer Portable Appliance Testing. I have many years experience doing this, from my time as an Electronic Calibration Engineer. I am fully City & Guilds certified, and my equipment will test all appliances, including IT, without damage.
Basically, PAT testing applies to anything with a mains plug on it. This also means, for the purposes of estimating PAT testing costs, that every separate mains lead (‘kettle’ leads), and extension lead is a testable item.
In the musical world, many venues now insist on bands providing proof of their equipment being tested for electrical safety, so, quite apart from keeping you, your employees or your bandmates safe, it may get you more gigs if you can that your gear is PAT tested.
It must be said that there are tales of venues suddenly ‘not worrying’ about previously requested evidence of PAT testing when asked for their fixed installation electrical safety certificates...
However, electrical safety is not just another Health & Safety hoop to be jumped through. It could be a matter of life or death.
