I do set-ups on the following types of instruments:
Acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars, including twelve-string, arch-top (‘jazz’) and classical.
Electric, including semi-hollow (Gibson ES-335, for example), hollow (e.g. Gibson ES-175), and solid (just about everything else).
Electric and electro-acoustic basses, including basses built around semi-hollow designs, etc (Gibson EB-2, Epiphone Rivoli, Epiphone Jack Casady, for example).
There are two levels of set-up available:-
Quick Tweak - this is basically a check and adjust of bridge height, intonation, and truss rod, in order to improve playability. Cost:- £12.50
Full Set-up - this is the works. The guitar is unstrung and cleaned. While the strings are off, all fittings are checked for security and tightness. Next, it is restrung and tuned to pitch. The truss rod is then adjusted for correct neck relief. Intonation and bridge height are then adjusted until the action is good and the guitar plays properly in tune. Next, where applicable, pickups are adjusted. Finally, a quick play check is performed, to listen for any other set-up problems. All being well, a final quick polish and the instrument is ready. Cost:- £25.00
Guitars equipped with Floyd Rose - style double-locking vibrato systems, or similar, cost extra due to the much greater time required to set them up properly - add £10 to the costs above for this type of instrument.
NOTE: The costs above do NOT include the price of new strings. For the quick tweak, I recommend new strings whenever possible. For the Full Set-up, a fresh set of strings is absolutely essential.
